On ‘New Years Eve’, 1914, the 2nd Grenadier Guards battalion of 4 (Guards) Brigade, 2nd Division, moved into the front line at Rue de Cailloux-Festubert in France where they stayed until relieved on 2nd January, 1915. Before this they had spent three days in reserve trenches in Rue de Cailloux.  While in both of these locations, 2nd Grenadiers suffered casualties from shell and sniper fire. Horace Wright died from wounds on 2nd January, 1915, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast, but as yet there is no information as to which day he was wounded.
